Tuscan lacquered sideboard

Art. 13-591

Length: 195 cm

Depth: 53 cm

Height: 106 cm

Elegant sideboard in the original 17th-century Tuscan style.

Unfortunately, the cabinet suffered heavy damage during the famous 1966 flood where the Arno River in Florence overflowed, flooding the entire city.

At the time of its discovery the sideboard was in a very bad state and only thanks to massive restoration was it possible to recover it.

The damaged parts were replaced using old wood again, while the color and decoration were taken up and almost entirely redone.

The decorator demonstrated his skill during the restoration work as he maintained the same painting technique that the sideboard presented before the flood.

By carefully considering the parts of color that had been saved from the water, the lacquered was thus able to equalize the memory of the original sideboard with the forced restoration it had to undergo.

The sideboard consists of two front doors, and inside, the space is divided into two compartments.

The top was decorated with a special technique, much in vogue in the past, which visually reproduced the effect of marble when it was actually wood.

Let us not forget that Florence was, and is, one of the main Italian cities where art, history and the pursuit of beauty reign.
