Chest with lion feet

Art. 8-1441

Length: 170 cm

Depth: 51 cm

Height: 60 cm

Beautiful late 17th-century chest from the region of Lombardy.

In this chest we notice the presence of the Baroque style that in the early 17th century would influence almost all Italian regions.

The particularity of this style lay mainly in the exaggerated use of decorative elements: the more lavish they were, the more they were in accordance with the canons of the Baroque style.

On the front of the chest we can observe a sumptuous carving enclosing a central coat of arms, probably the symbol of the noble lineage that owned this chest.

The feet, in the shape of a lion, are typical of the sixteenth-century period.

Another clue suggesting the noble origin of the artifact is the fine walnut wood they used in its construction.

Along the two sides are two iron handles, perhaps used to transport the chest.

The history trapped in this antique piece of furniture leaves everyone with an opportunity to fantasize about its past so distant from us.
